2023 International Va'a Federation World Distance Championships
The International Va’a Federation is pleased to invite you as member to participate in the 2023 IVF Va’a World Distance Championships. The event will be held in Samoa hosted by the Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association (SOCA) from 10th to 19th August 2023.
This event was originally scheduled for 2021; however, due to COVID-19 it was postponed to 2023 and we are very excited to be heading to Samoa and working closely with SOCA.
Further information regarding entry deadlines and event information will follow in the coming weeks including a detailed draft programme of events once intents have been received.
Online Entries – OPEN
The online entry system for the 2023 IVF World Distance Championships is now live. Once your Member Federation has paid its 2023 IVF membership fees we will enable your login so that you can enter the World Distance Championship.
If you have not received your invoice please email treasurer@ivfiv.org or contact admin@ivfiv.org
Please remember that entries close on 10 April 2023, but our hosts would appreciate if you don’t wait until April to complete your entries. The sooner they are able to know how many countries and paddlers are coming the sooner they can plan accordingly.
Va’a for the event
The V6 used at the World Distance Championship will be Matahina made in Tahiti and the V1 will be Fausaga Va’a made in Samoa.

After consideration from our hosts, the Samoa Outrigger Canoe Association - the following races according to age categories and their distances will be held at the event:

- Junior 16 (Minimum age 11) (reduced distance)*
- Junior 19 (minimum age 14)
- Open (minimum age 16)
- Master 40
- Master 50
- Master 60
- Master 70 (reduced distance)
- Master 75 (reduced distance)*
- Master 80 (reduced distance) *
- Para (Mixed V6, reduced distance)
- Countries may enter one V6 team per gender
- Countries may enter one V1 paddler per gender
- Para Va’a V1 will include VL2, VL3 and IVF’s VL4 categories with one entry per gender
- Para Va’a V6 will include VL1, VL2, VL3 and IVF’s VL4 categories with one entry being mixed
Uniforms must be a national standard uniform representing the country
